Clinical Audiology

Audiologists hold New York State licenses in audiology as well as certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Under medical supervision, clients receive hearing evaluations including audiometric testing, impedance battery tests Otoacoustic Emissions Testing (OAE) and Auditory Brainstem Testing (ABR). Clients are assisted in determining amplification needs and in the fitting of hearing aids. Clients who experience the communicative effects of decreased hearing and reduced word-identification ability learn how they can participate comfortably in the activities of their daily lives.

Mobile Outreach

Audiology staff use the Mobile Outreach Van to conduct hearing tests at community organizations and at industrial work sites for compliance with OSHA. The van is equipped with a Mobile Audiometric Test Suite, which allows for hearing evaluations and analyses of current hearing aids in the field. Referrals for follow-up consultations are made back to the Lexington Hearing and Speech Center or to other local organizations. Referred individuals are given a diagnostic medical work-up including audiology and aural rehabilitation.

Speech - Language Pathology

Licensed speech-language pathologists evaluate and treat children and adults who have difficulty with communication due to hearing loss, developmental delays, neurological impairment or voice disorders. One-on-one therapeutic sessions are designed to help individuals use speech as a means to communicate. Therapists assist elderly persons who are losing hearing with social adjustments so as to minimize disruption to their lifestyles.
