Hispanic Resource Team

The Hispanic Resource Team at Lexington was created to provide Hispanic students and their families with an educational program to meet their cultural, linguistic and cognitive needs. The Team's goals are:

  • To create a school environment of acceptance and respect for Hispanic students' and families' home language and culture.
  • To enhance the Hispanic student's educational program and to facilitate the development of the student's skills to the best of his/her abilities.
  • To enhance communication and foster the relationships between the Hispanic deaf child and his/her family and community.

The Hispanic Resource Team currently includes one teacher, a full time interpreter/translator, a bilingual secretary and a coordinator. The Team provides services in three major areas: instruction, family services and staff consultation. These services are provided to families, students and school staff in all departments of the school. The bilingual/bi-cultural instructional services include Spanish language clarification, development, as well as language and cultural unit and lesson planning in conjunction with classroom teachers.

Family services include parent groups, parent education, crisis intervention, as well as on-going parent contact. Consultation to school staff is done through group in-service and on-going meetings with classroom teachers. The Team acts as a resource for bilingual/bi-cultural issues, as well as a liaison between home and school. In addition, a staff interpreter/translator is available for all parent meetings, phone calls and the translation of all school correspondence into Spanish.

The Hispanic Resource Team may be contacted at
