Middle School

The Middle School comprises Grades 6-8. Students are organized into teams, with two or three classes on a team. The curriculum follows the New York State Department of Education Standards for all subjects including language arts (reading, writing, communication), mathematics, science (one year each of life, earth and physical science), social studies (two years of American History/Civics, one year of World Studies), health, technology and home/career. In addition to these subjects, students have classes in physical education (including swimming), performing arts, and art/woodworking. Computer skills and library skills are applied in each subject area. Individual and group speech therapy sessions occur as indicated on a student’s IEP. All classrooms have FM amplification systems available.

Students in all grades are involved in a cognitive education program called Instrumental Enrichment.  All students take standardized tests annually, as well as mandated New York State Pupil Performance Tests in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Middle Student Government during the school day.  Students have the option of participating in an after-school program once a week (transportation is provided).  Students in the program receive extra support in test-taking strategies to prepare for New York State tests.  A sports program is also available after school (transportation is not provided).
