The
Special Education Unit (SEU) program is specially tailored to
meet the educational needs of students who are deaf and developmentally
disabled, ages 3 to 21. Students attending SEU benefit from its
highly structured educational environment which integrates the
principles of applied behavior analysis and the school's mediated
learning approach. SEU staff are skilled in developing, implementing
and evaluating the comprehensive interventions our students require.
Students participate in New York State Alternate Assessments.

Based on each student's
performance profile, an individualized education plan is developed.
These plans can cover a variety of areas such as: self-help, socialization,
communication, functional academics, job skills, self-control
and others. A major focus of the program is eliminating inappropriate
behaviors (which may range from mild to severe) and replacing
them with behaviors necessary for success in school, home, work
and community.
The SEU also
offers parents assistance, support and training to help with their
child's progress at home.
